CosmiC Religion for Cosmopolitans
We know today: Our Earth is one celestial body among many.
And our solar system is one of billions in the cosmos.
Our cosmos has existed for about 14 billion years,
our Earth for about 5 billion years.
Humans evolved on this small planet.
Their evolution began about 4 million years ago.
We don’t know whether they will still exist in 4 million years.
We understand religion differently today than we did in the past.
It used to be: the Earth below, gods or God above.
Our current knowledge forces us to reinterpret.
We can express the infinite only imperfectly and symbolically in words.
Our words remain approximations. This applies to all languages and scripts.
Patriarchal societies created patriarchal religions,
aristocratic societies developed aristocratic religions,
democratic societies develop democratic forms of religion.
Humans who have become aware that we are all creatures of an infinite cosmos develop a broad, cosmic, and cosmopolitan religiosity.
„All human beings are children of the cosmos.“
Everyone can stand behind this statement, regardless of our worldview, be it an atheistic, agnostic, theistic, pantheistic or whatever worldview.
This broad perspective must inspire our thinking and actions.
CosmiC Religion / Kosmische Religion für Cosmopoliten
Wir wissen heute:
Unsere Erde ist ein Himmelkörper unter vielen.
Und unser Sonnensystem ist eines von Milliarden im Kosmos.
Unser Kosmos besteht seit ca. 14, unsere Erde seit ca. 5 Milliarden Jahren.
Auf diesem kleinen Planet hat sich der Mensch entwickelt.
Vor ca. 4 Millionen Jahren hat seine Entwicklung begonnen.
Ob es ihn in 4 Millionen Jahren noch gibt, wissen wir nicht.
Wir verstehen heute Religion anders als früher.
Früher galt: Unten die Erde, oben Gott oder Götter.
Unser heutiges Wissen zwingt uns zur Neu-Interpretation.
Das Unendliche können wir nur unvollkommen und symbolisch in Worte fassen.
Unsere Worte bleiben immer Annäherung. Das gilt für alle Sprachen und Schriften.
Patriarchalische Gesellschaften schufen patriarchalische Religionen,
aristokratische Gesellschaften entwickelten aristokratische Religionen,
demokratische Gesellschaften entwickeln demokratische Religionsformen.
Der Mensch, der sich bewusst geworden ist,
dass wir alle Geschöpfe eines unendlichen Kosmos sind,
entwickelt eine weite, kosmische und kosmopolitische Religiosität.
“Alle Menschen sind Kinder des Kosmos.”
Hinter dieser Aussage kann jeder Mensch stehen,
unabhängig von seiner Weltanschauung, sei sie eine atheistische, agnostische, theistische, pantheistische oder welche auch immer.
Dieser weite Blick muss unser Denken und Handeln inspirieren.
